RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Graham,

The styled 25 you have just posted reminded me of a very similar tractor (if not the same one) which I saw at a small club museum near Moose Jaw SK back in 1996, there was some intersting Wallis tractors at the same place too? I must dig out my old photographs.
Another tractor with the Robin set up plus the additional oil filter / heater fitted which seemed to be popular in your part of the world.

I see the styled 25 which Nixon's sold on Saturday at the Seger Estate sale in Johnson Kansas sold very well at $3100.00, a pity they did not post the serial number, so hope there was a Massey collector there who noted it for your list, maybe it has gone to a good Massey home?

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

John,

I like having tractors with these manifolds as well as the original Massey and Wallis manifolds, it's all part of the Canadian history of these tractors.
I haven't found any advertising on MIA or Robin manifolds yet which is surprising as there are a lot of these manifolds out here. Later in the 40s and onwards tractors were run mainly on gas (petrol) so another reason for fitting these Manifolds and if your manifold got in the state of this one it was maybe the best option.

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Yesterday this 33A parts book supplement  for the styled 25 arrived which I have found very interesting. On this thread there was some discussion about big mesh and fine mesh grills on the 25s in the supplement it gives a different part number for the grill on tractors 74025 and up.

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Yesterday I received a heavy 56lb box from Columbia Tennessee, when opened it was my 25 refurbished pulley back from Paper Pulleys, what a superb job they had done on this 18 inch diameter belt pulley, wonderful this old Company continues to offer a service to the restorer now and another tradition still available in the USA rather than China or India!!

Shown here at the side of a 12 inch Pacemaker one they refurbished last year, shows the difference between the two models.

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Wow!!  Those are nicely redone pulleys!! And it is especially nice to see the patent tag with Indianapolis on it!!  We do things well here in Indiana.   (Even if it was in TN!!)

Malcolm

What a nice looking pulley. Nice to see good engineering.

Now you will require wrench number 11859 T to tighten up the bolt to keep it on the shaft. If you have this wrench perhaps you could send me a picture of it please and I can add it to the list. If not if someone else has a picture of it I would be very grateful.

Thanks

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

We just got out first 25 picked up this weekend. Some how we have never managed to get a 25 until now. I had been waiting to find a nice original with 28" round spokes in good shape. I think we found it. A friend of mine talked to me at Rollag this fall and told me about this 25 he bought in Moose Jaw SK. We made a deal for the tractor and It seems to be a pretty nice tractor. The engine is still stuck but it looks pretty decent on the bottom end anyway. Spent today cleaning it up some and wrestling with the junk rear tires. Next week the other extra equipment is going away. It even has electric start!

While working on freeing up the parking brake I noticed that the "handle" portion of the lever where you hand goes was painted black. I am assuming this was originally painted black like the seat on these 25's.

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Tom,

I hope that you will retain that starter arrangement.  It is certainly a novel and probably unique piece of after market engineering to be treasured, and very much part of the tractor's history.  Have you found out who made this adaptation?

John

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Hi john, I was originally going to take that off right away but everybody that I talk to says I should keep it. So maybe I can get it fixed up and working. They definitely did a nice job of adding it. This tractor came from a dealer in Moose Jaw so if I could get ahold of him he might remember some history on it. It must have sat inside somewhere and from the dust and dirt on it they had light soil.
