RE:MCA Ideas

I agree with idea of using Pay Pal. US banks dont like foreign cheques so I find it more convenient to exchange for US dollars and send cash. May not be the safest but it works.
I am also one of those who observe and follow the web site and find it very informative and interesting. Thanks to all those who post regularly, keep up with the posting. One thing that might be helpful for me would be a location to get information on posting photos, I havent been able to do that yet.
    Thanks, Doug

RE:MCA Ideas

MCA was I believe founded to promote interest in MH, Ferguson and MF as well as related companies such as Wallis etc etc etc.

The USA has an excellent "Ferguson Club"  - FENA - (Ferguson Enthusiasts of North America) but there seems to be little contact between MCA and FENA - yet we are all sharing at least a part of the same interest.

It occured to me that one way to bring the two groups closer together would be for MCA and FENA to co-ordinate their annual EXPOS and hold them on the same sites.  They would be totally complimentary.  If the two were on one site each year it would make for a more inclusive coverage of our shared history which led to the creation of MF.

Can I therefore suggest that the MCA board explore this possibility with FENA with a view to perhaps getting the two EXPOS on one site for as early as 2014.

An added advantage with the cost of travel and accomodation these days is of course that attendees would get two EXPOS for the price of one each year.

This year I think the two EXPOS are on the same date but one in Ontario and one in Ohio.  How impossible!  What a missed opportunity for people to get together.

I hope that there will be an outcome on this.

Thanks, John

RE:MCA Ideas

Hi John.

That is a great idea!  Not a new one - but great.  In fact, we did have a joint MENA/FENA combined show it Canandaigua, NY in 2011!!  I think everyone felt it was very successful.  Although the numbers were than the greatest for either, the whole show aspect is not about how many pieces are on display.  We even co-ordinated our banquets so that everyone who wished could attend both events!

We also had a joint show in Fort Mead, Fl several years ago.  I would say it was not quite as successful but it happened!!  We also had shows at the same location in Nebraska. (that one was fun - if I think about it - I will send you a letter I received about that one!!)

As you well know, we have a committee that selects the locations for the MENA event and it would not be too much to encourage FENA to join in (or vice-versa) I do think we are scheduled out a little further than they plan but it would not be hard to do, if both parties would be willing to sit down and discuss it.

FENA would be more than welcome to have their National Show in my home town Rushville, IN in 2014!!

Maybe JWB and reach out to them!!

RE:MCA Ideas

Gary,

Delighted that you are on board with the joint MCA-FENA EXPOs idea.  By buying that GP with what look like Ferguson mudguards on it there is now an added urgency for the joint EXPO - you will have a better chance of off loading them to a Ferguson nut!

Anyway - congratulations on the acquisition of the GP and hope you soon have it up and running - with a repacement rad!  I like those tip toe wheels.  I know you are a bit wary of these hand crank machines but at least the GPs are quite tame and easy to swing over, and furthermore generally good starters.  Worse thing about them is getting on them - they do test your agility somewhat, and the steering when manouvering will build up your arm muscles!

John:

I guess I should have been more detailed in my story. I am sure Gary E. is wondering what the heck we are talking about here....

The GP with the much needed radiator was at Gary Biewer's place, I stopped there on the way home from my Cub hunting expidition to pick up an extra GP Overhead valve engine he had for sale.  I do think that Gary E should buy a tractor such as this GP so he gets the true feeling of what Massey Harris has to offer. Sorry for the confusion...

RE:MCA Ideas

For a minute there I thought I had died and gone to Heaven.  To have that GP would have been an out-of-body experience.  I would definitely love to have a GP but those tip toe wheels would be the death of me!

Someday, maybe.

Of course if John wants to send back over that back climber - I would be happy to be its new owner!!

RE:MCA Ideas

Wow.  I thought I had entered the twilight zone there for a minute reading that GTE had purchased a Massey-Harris GP!?!   I was about ready to go hit the other threads to see what I had missed.   But then Joe cleared it all up, and set things back right with the world.   Whew!!

RE:MCA Ideas

I must apologise to Gary E for getting confused about who owned the GP.  But really Gary it is time for you to graduate to the era of crank start, iron wheel, muffler free tractors.  They are a pure delight and great satsifaction comes from bringing an engine to life with a dose of controlled brute force.  Something quite primeval about it.

It is particularly satisfying on that first start up when one has just rescued a golden oldie from deriliction or scrap.

Maybe others can join in and explain the pure joy of a hand crank start up and get Gary on the graduation ladder.  Of course one can start the self starters on the crank but it is not nearly as satisfying and we so rarely see anyone doing this.  Too much money to spend on batteries I say!

RE:MCA Ideas

I had a bit of an idea tonight whilst sat in the bath.  Don't know if there is any mileage in it.

What about printing out some of the older and more "complete" threads and selling them at events and show.  This way MCA would make our informative threads available to a wider audience including those MCA members who are not so keen on the web site.  It might generate a few $$$$$s and spread our Massey info wider.

Hope it can at least be considered

John
