RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive
I get alot of calls about the Massey Harris GPs and how to work on them, the other day I got a call from a guy in Ohio who was taking off one of his wheels and broke the bull gear. If you have never taken a wheel off a GP before it can be a challenge, But if it is done right it usually is quite simple.
Once you got the hub cap off you need a couple 3/4 inch ready rods about a foot long and a strong bar on the end of them. Just screw the rods into the cast wheel and mount your bar between the rods and put a hydraulic jack between the bar and the wheel hub. You need to make a piece about four inches around so you only push on the 1/2 inch wide hub of the bull gear.
push on the center shaft of the wheel or you will more than likely break the bearing. Here are some pictures of what it looks like with the wheel off.
