RE:Wallis Tractors

This is for Gary's question down below as there is no reply tab showing up on his post.

The reason for the Certified Wallis is the men at the Wallis Factory were proud of there work and knew it would last so they weren't afraid to put their name on it.

Most tractors at that time were just pawned off on the poor farmer and they were used as a guiney pig to work the bugs out of them.

Here is an original Certificate from tractor # 54691 that I have and am looking for the tractor to match it, but so far no luck. I believe it is somewhere in Oklahoma if it still exists.

I do have one other Wallis tractor in my collection with the original Certificate with matching Numbers it is Tractor # 61369 and the Certificate is still in the original Vanilla envelope with an open wax window in the front to see the Certificate. I have never seeen another one like it yet. I got this tractor from the original owner and he said it was hanging on the steering wheel when he picked up the tractor in Minneapolis in 1928.

RE:Wallis Tractors

There is a picture in the operaters manual that shows the certificate stuck to the side of the fuel tank. I hope the lost reply button gets found, pressing the reply button from an earlier post seems to work.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Thanks for the explanation!!  And sharing more of your collections!!  I never new there was an actual certificate for the tractor itself.  Supposedly, the wacko internet 20-30 tractor from Neb was to have had a certificate but once everything was over it never appeared!!  That could be a important piece of paper if they had it!!

PS We are searching for the "Reply" button!!

RE:Wallis Tractors

Yes Gary, to get an original certificate with a Wallis tractor is very special and if some one else wrongfully got there hands on it if it should have been with the tractor that would be a terrible shame.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Gary, you are showing a lot of interest in Wallis and Massey U frame tractors, I think you are warming up to the idea of owning one. I have an idea for the hand cranking problem, I heve a 1919 Fordson with electric start, maybe the same set up could be fitted to a Wallis. Malcolm, Hope you can soon get signed in, missing your input here.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Here's a Wallis tractor for Joe and Tom to go across and visit.  Are you aware of this Wallis lying in the Smithsonian Institution in New York?  The photo is taken from the 125th MF anniversary brochure of 1972 which was very widely distributed seemingly internationally, and still easy to get a copy of.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Hi John, yes we know of the tractor, Malcolm too. Sadly I do not think anybody will be seeing it for a long time. It seems that our museum directors decided it was not important enough to leave on display so it got stuffed into some secret storage facility not to be seen   By the public and no plans of disposing it again. I guess that is just how it works in Washington, can't get anything right.

Now the tractor has always been called a K but in fact is a cub jr wide front. Since it was a cub jr we naturally wanted more information on it since there is only three other wide fronts. I have always thought there must be something special with that particular tractor for Massey to have kept it around until 1959 or went out and bought it to place in the museum? I guess we may never know.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Good to see the reply button back, makes things a little easier. The Cub jr in the Smithsonian Museum is one tractor I also would very much like to take a look at and take note of the serial number.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Hi Graham

It is funny you posted the picture of the Fordson retrofitted with a starter.  I about got caught with a similar situation a couple years ago.  A friend of mine was wanting to sell his Autman Taylor 30-60.  It is a beautiful and $$$ tractor!!  I said I would love to have it but I have watched him start it with that long handle and I needed a button.

He invited me to step up on the tractor to see how easy it was to start!!  He had a small tank of gas and poured a little amount in the caps in front of the station.  Put on a smile. Pushed a button , pulled a lever and off it started!!!  I was totally surprised and he just laughed and told how to make out the check!!!  Of course, there were too many zeros for me to comprehend how to write a number that large!!

He had put a starter under the tractor with a hard rubber pulley mounted to it.  You pushed the button to activate the starter then pulled the lever to make the pulley contact the flywheel.  You could not see any of his art work just standing on the ground looking at the tractor.  It was a very nice setup!!

RE:Wallis Tractors

Joe/Tom,

My Wallis 15-27 has the drawbar as shown in the pic.  Can you tell me if this is official Wallis kit or after market?  Do you see many with this type of drawbar.

Thanks, John
