RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

With winter still so cold here in Lincolnshire it was time to further the installation this weekend, I know John is keen to see the "glow of Massey heat" and hopefully it will warm something tasty on the top.

The manifold was fabricated and painted Saturday and attached to the first length of pipe,  Sunday the lengths of pipe installed to the roof, but unfortunately the weather was too cold to break through the tiles on the roof, as soon as we get a nice weekend, that will be the final phase before we "light the fire" .

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Malcolm,

That is spectacular progress in only a short time and a nice bit of your craftsmanship forming that flange to take the pipe up from the stove.  If you get any of the weather we are experiencing this side of the country today you will need a down draught preventer device on the top of the chimney.  Here we have vicious horizontal rain in a 50 mph gale at the moment.

We look forward to seeing the final products of you labours on the Massey Mens food thread!

Here I have a snag with my literature filing system - I am finding that our A4 size plastic punch pockets are just marginally too narrow for the equivalent North American size.  As usual - they have to have them "bigger over there" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  When I was in Gaza of all places a few years ago they had some about 1 cm wider and they were ideal.  I bought a good stock for just this purpose but have used them all up

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

John,

I am very pleased to hear you approve of the stove progress so far and just reading your email what a great idea to put a pair of Western Style Setee's in the entrance with the old coffee pot purculating on the top of the stove, do you think I will have more Massey Visitors then?

Interesting to hear of your filing dilema, I went through the same process in 2010 and of course "Massey" has the answer as seen below.
On very few occasions of our North American trips do we go shopping, but this day in August 2010 we both went into this shop and that is where I purchased a huge pile of the larger plastic pockets which are larger and fit the larger size of literature, of course being from "The Original Massey" factory in Newcastle Ontario they are just perfect, so if you can wait until August we will be in there shopping again.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Malcolm -

I had completely forgotten that - but you have usefully jogged my memory.  I had already put them on my summer shopping list for Ontario but will now highlight them for the Massey shop in Newcastle in the old Massey-Harris factory.  It will give my filing system some provenance!

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Hello Malcolm,

That M-H Stove looks really good. Can you bake a cake in it? I'll get Doreen to send you a recipe for a Massey cake and then we can all have a peice of it when we come to see you Ha! Ha!

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

With being "off the air" here for almost two weeks has delayed getting the latest activity in Lincolnshire across to you all, I suppose the plus side of not being on the website is I had more time to get some projects finalised and what better than forwarding the stove project.

Saturday February 3rd was the day to get the chimney through the roof and experience the first lighting of the M-H stove in true ceremony style with a M-F match from a part used matchbook in my collection. It was an amazing experience to see the first smoke pour from the chimney and quickly the sticks and dry seasoned ash and hawthorn logs burned brightly with an immense amount of heat, which was most welcomed on a very cold day.
I must say it was an amazing moment for me to warm my hands over the top of a "Massey - Harris" stove, then opening the doors to let even more heat out into the room, I sat back in my Grand father's arm chair and lot's of Massey Memories were flooding through my mind of my fathers conversations over the years of "all things Massey", I am the third generation of the Robinson family involvment with Massey and hopefully Stuart will take it forward iinto the next generation.

Enjoy the photo's as I am sure you will not see many Massey Harris stoves in action, if there are then let's see the photo's.

Great to be back on here.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Malcolm,

Congratulations on that fine installation!  It certainly must be a FIRST in Massey Collectors circles of which you can certainly be proud.

I suppose that there may still be a few in use in old houses up in Canada - maybe Graham can hunt some out for us?  And if he finds one spare then I am most definitely in the market.

I did go after one of the wider oven type ones in white last year but it had quite a bit of chipped enamel.  Additionally it was way out up in the Canadian prairies so would have cost a fortune to get home to across the pond here.

Well I'm looking forward to coffee, scones and a spell in that armchair.

John

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

I will certainly be keeping my eyes and ears open, there`s got to be more out here somewhere.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Splendid, Malcolm!  I could almost feel the warmth just looking at your photos.   Well done!

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Very nice job Malcolm.  You are the envy of Massey collectors.  The stove looks almost new and the beautiful fire makes me want to head your way in the cold and rain!!  I would think it would only take a minute or two to get that office area cozy warm!!  Congratulations on a very nice installation.

Now for some advice - don't burn the place down!!!

Enjoy
