RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Alan,

The two visible differences in the Fergy Pony and the MH Pony are the front end and the serial numbers.

The front end was actually a Pacer front end.  It has the strengthing gussets on the sides of the support rods going back to the center of the frame connection and the spindles might be a little more beefy!!

The serial numbers were from a run of 23149 to 23853.  These were basically the last set of numbers assigned to the Pony (other than the 122 made in 1957).  I have seen a couple that do not fit into the number spectrum but this is the general rule. (No proof they actually were Fergies).

Kimball's original Fregy Pony points to the fact the word "Ferguson" on the sides probably did not exist on the originals but several of the repaints have added the badge.

Another interesting point is the word "Pony" was on the point of the hood on the MH and on the Fergy it appeared on both sides near the front.

Hope this helps a little.

BTW - the 1957 Pony can be identified by their serial numbers 24049-24319. They have the Pacer front end and they have an added hole in the hood for the hydraulic fluid fill cap!!

More information than you probably wanted but...

Gary

Thanks for the info on the Fergy Pony

I was thinking they just pull one off the line and painted it grey but off course this wouldn't have been the case if they had Pacer front ends.

I wonder who decreed this because you would have thought if there was a problem with the front ends M-H Ponys would have had the Pacer ones as well.

Something else that I have learnt.

Thanks

Alan

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

The Nottinghamshire Group of the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club held their Working Weekiend near Retford over this last weekend.

Not too many Masseys there but some interesting ones including a MF 95 Super and also with a Tumble Bug Plough,a 744,a Grey Fergy loader and sawbench and a TO 35

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Thank you for the photographs Alan,

Hope you enjoyed the Sunday "Ploughing Match" , expect there would be a few Standard Fordson's and Ransome plough's on the plots?

Malcolm.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Yes Malcolm there were a few Fordsons ploughing but mostly ones that had been converted to diesel which I don't like but plenty of Ransomes ploughs.

On Sunday morning there was a church service with a country and farming theme which was very nice  with a pair of Shire Horses in attendance. The Rector Blessed the plough.and on Monday morning a Spitfire flew over.

Here are some more photos. A Cross made out of wheat on a straw bale Altar,a MF 1200, a MF #24 Chesil Plough, a Narrow Grey Fergy fitted with a Perkins P3 engine which I think is a bit unusual and a World War Two Spitfire.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Alan,

What's up with them fenders? They seem to be leaning ahead is there a special bracket for this? Or did someone do this to keep the implements from hitting them? Much different than mine I got from John.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Joe,

Don't worry - those are the correct MUDGUARDS for a vineyard.  Yours are correct for a standard tractor.  I'm not sure if the vineyard mudguards were different or just different brackets to angle them forward.  All done to make more clearance round the back.

I like the shot of my (your!) tractor in front of the scrap pile!  Just hope it doesn't end up in it!!

Any chance you could e mail me a copy of that shot please?  Thanks.

John

I must confess I didn't take enough notice of the tractor. I am wondering if it's a Reekie conversion. As you probably know Reekies were Ferguson agents and engineers in Scotland and cut down TE 20s before Harry Ferguson made a Vineyard version much to Harry Ferguson's disgust.

They were made to go between the rows of Raspberries grown in that area of Scotland.

Thanks for helping out John. Is it a Ferguson Vineyard or a Reekie?

Alan

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

My guess would be a Reekie conversion Alan,

It looks like there is two rectangular badges on the front of the bonnet (hood) just above the grill, the Reekie badge is often seen with the Ferguson one on the berry tractor.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

I paid a visit to the Malpas Yesteryear show today - hadn't been for about 20 years.  It was as good as ever with a good selection of "junk" stalls tho' sadly almost nothing MH to be picked up.  There were about 170 tractors of all makes including a few MHs, an excellent military display including a prime mover powered by a Merlin aero engine, an excellent dsplay of trucks and stationary engines and most important these days at shows a very good entry point off the roads and excellent nearby parking.

Anyway here are the photos of some of the exhibits including a delightful nearly all female girls' steel band which made for superb background music.  There were also about 15 steam road rollers.
