RE:Massey signs

Just had this what we call a "binder backboard" in.  What do you call them over the pond and down in Aus?

RE:Massey signs

This rather nice early MF triple triangle sign came through my door today.  It is tin and stands about 22 inches high.  Previously I have posted a similar one about twice the size and made of plywood.

RE:Massey signs

I have just been informed by a good friend who knows about matters MF more than I do that the sign is one which would have been placed on one of the MF/Butler grain bins.
Nice to learn something new but isn't that what this hobby is all about?

RE:Massey signs

John,  Here in eastern Iowa, Butler Bins are quite common.  In all my travels, and all the years I have been around I was not aware of a Butler/Massey Ferguson Venture in Grain Bins.  Nor do I ever remember seeing a Bin with this logo on it's side.  Congratulations, you now have me scratching my head.   Tim

RE:Massey signs

Tim,

This was a joint venture in the UK and I have documented it in my new book "Massey Harvesters" - if I can persuade you to buy a copy off Steve and Sandy!!  There are a set of these still standing on the farm next to the MF training centre at Stoneleigh.

Good to hear from you - see you at Rushville??

John

RE:Massey signs

Well John, ya got me !!!    I must plead guilty on the fact that I do not have this book.  And Thank you for letting me off cheap.   Buying a copy of your Book, instead of saying...  Come on over and see for yourself !!!!!   Rushville may be a challenge.  I would like to attend my first Iowa MCA Show,  Western Illinois Threshers at Hamilton, Illinois is featuring Massey-Harris this year, and I have been asked to bring a small ( ha ha ha ) display of Memorabilia and sorts,  and Midwest Old Threshers at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa are the planned Events if Time off permits. But you never know.  Tim

RE:Massey signs

Another interesting road sign spotted whilst in Newcastle Ontario recently. Anyone visiting the Massey Restaurant will see these on the corner of the old Massey factory building.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey signs

Something I have just had in from Australia via Holland again, a Sunshine sign.  I have no idea what the original colours would have been on this so if anyone down under can help I would be grateful.  I will not be re-painting it until I am absolutely sure of original colours.  And I would like to know what it is off or was it just a dealer's sign.

RE:Massey signs

Here's another Sunshine sign that came in with the last one.  I believe that this has been taken from one of the early Sunshine header harvesters.
