RE:Massey signs

Hi John, looks like a machine part rather than a dealers sign. Usually the same as the header elevator covers, yellow writing and sun rays on a red back ground.  Any writing that was on the timber work around the walkers or framework was in green. Hope this helps....Buck

RE:Massey signs

Buck,

Thanks for that info.  I'll think on whether to paint the machine sign.  Maybe I could do the red and then get a signwriter with his delicate skills which i haven't got!.

Any ideas on the rectangular one?

John

RE:Massey signs

This is an absolutely gorgeous MF sign I found in Canada this summer.  It is virtually new and with only two minor marks on it.  Very pleased!!

I am guessing that it is a sign of the 60's.  Anyone know differently??

RE:Massey signs

Nice looking sign John!

I was at an auction about a month ago and the sign buyers had deep pockets. There were two really nice large porcelain signs the nicer one went for $2,300.00 and the other $1,700.00 I ended up coming home with one of the two I was after. It is made of aluminum with wood on the back, there were two of them I got the better one of the two. I believe it is the same as one Malcolm posted earlier on here. Glad I got it as I didn't have this one yet.

RE:Massey signs

Well done Joe on your latest purchase, yes it is the same as mine just with a different dealers name at the bottom. Hope you have found a space for it in the barn?
Three very nice M-H signs at the auction and as usual these days sold very well, the sign collectors seem to keep the prices on the high side.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey signs

Here is the M-F sign from the recent Newark Show which was stolen from under my nose (by a friend) in a Lincoln junk shop.

From the description and location of the  M-H / M-F dealership where it came from, I know they were a very popular business in their area and very very loyal to M-H and later M-F, unfortunatley they finally closed their doors after the AGCO take over. I know their M-H UK round dealer clock was saved from their office door and often wonder where it is now. I had an inside parts/ stores guy watching it for years, he now has lost it's current location, but knows it was hung in a garage for a few years and could not be bought.

Only last night I mentioned to a fellow collector someone should be documenting and collating photographs of these old implement dealers and their premises, as time moves on all this history will be lost.

Enjoy the M-F sign

Malcolm.

RE:Massey signs

Malcolm,

Sorry you missed out on that sign.. At least you know who has it now and may someday have a chance at putting it in your collection.

Here is a sign I got in the mail today that I have been waiting patiently for from Northern Ireland. It is 57 inches long and 9 inches tall, never seen one like it before. Any Idea of the year this would have been used? My guess was late 20s or early 30s? any thoughts?

RE:Massey signs

Well done on your latest purchase Joe,

Check your photo's you have seen two before on your east and west UK travels, I believe they are a very early M-H sign from the early 1900's to1920 period and guess they were available for dealers / blacksmiths selling mainly binders and grass mowers in those early years.

What do others think?

What is that "white stuff" at the top of your photo Joe? don't like to see that around this early.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey signs

Malcolm,

I will have to check my pictures when I get time but it may be later as I have to head out to Massachusetts tomorrow to pick up two GPs in need of a lot of TLC.

Yes it is that time of year again the snow is back and not giving up anytime soon... It is ten degrees here today but at least there is no wind. Here are a couple pictures I took the other day. Glad I got my plowing all done.... I can gripe about it but at least I have it better here than Steve M. When he got back from Canada with his latest new horse he couldn't even get in his driveway as there was 15 inches of snow in his path. Must have been some of my snow that was on back order for Whiz-N-Day from last year...

RE:Massey signs

Malcolm,

Just browsed through some of my pictures and found one at John's but it is different than mine as it doesn't have "Repairs" on it. I couldn't find any in my pictures from your place, do you have one and if so is it like mine or John's? Here is the picture I found of John's.
