RE:Massey signs

I finally figured out the secret to my new password.  That will teach me to not write down the old one.   Concerning the Massey Sign on e-Bay,  I thought $450- $500 was way too much, which is what they have been bringing, but I am wrong.  I just purchased a similar sign on Yesterdays Tractors,  for much less than that.  It will rate a 8.5-9 .   I do hope the new owner is happy.  Not someone who bids and then does not purchase.  If I ever figure out how to use the Family Camera  I might start sending some details of Konnie's Collection.   Last weekend here in Iowa a Neon Clock working fetched $1350-$1400.  a Better Built Proud Owner Gate Sign brought $275.  WOW!!!!  Till then...Tim

RE:Massey signs

Nice to see the Massey signs thread reactivated recently.  Here's one I collected somewhere in North America once upon a time.  It's a dealer's sign advertisng their abilities to repair/redo your Massey hydraulic hoses.  I've never seen one before or since.

RE:Massey signs

Here are a collection of small metal signs that were placed around UK dealers premises.  I aquired them from a dealer up in Scotland.

RE:Massey signs

This is one of my favourite Massey Harris signs in my collection, I think due to the fact I was really a gas engine collector when I started collecting in the early 1970's, so the M-H line of engines are always important to me in my present day collection.

Has any of these tin signs been seen in any other parts of the world?, I knew of one other here in England in the late Derek Hackett collection, I think it possibly resides in Ireland now.

RE:Massey signs

Here are two signs taken from the hospitality and accomodation facilities of the old MF International training school at Stoneleigh in the British Midlands and not far from the factory at Coventry.  This was the biggest training school of its type and of any manufacturer in the world and started originally by Harry Ferguson.  These are the signs from two of the function rooms which I aquired just before the whole facility was discontinued and pulled down.

RE:Massey signs

Here are two street name signs from within the Massey-Harris factory site at Barton Dock Road, Manchester.  This factory was originally a war time Ford aero engine factory and MH took it over after the war as business expanded and their first facility in the adjacent Trafford Park industrial estate on Ashburton Road became inadeqaute.  The old aero engine factory was subsequently expanded.  Ultimately it became a Massey Ferguson agricultural equipment plant, but later became a specialist MF industrials plant and finally after a management buyout it became a Fermec plant who carried on producing MF indistrial equipment.  I aquired these two street name signs when the plant was being demolished about 10 years ago.

So - at the risk of repeating myself and getting a reputation for nagging - can you MCA members in the Racine area develop some interest in the history of the MH plant at Racine, get it documented and maybe find some little artifacts like these.  Once they are gone they are gone.........................

RE:Massey signs

Great to see the related "Road Signs" under discussion on the Massey Signs thread.

During our Massey tour of Ontario last August we made a detour into Hamilton to have a look at what remains of the old Sawyer Massey building, which I understand was the assembly shop, we browsed around and as we drove away spotted the "Sawyer Road" sign.

I expect there are many more roads worldwide still named and in use from the "worlds largest manufacturer of farm machinery" and their related companies so let's see them.

RE:Massey signs

This "sign" is actually for displaying fan belts - I've seen a few of these over time on my travels.

RE:Massey signs

Here are a few very nice Massey Harris reproduction signs I picked up from a vendor in the flea market at The Baraboo Wisconsin Expo in 2012. Very nice detail and colours.

I must say Steve's golf cart came in handy to transport them back to the truck.

RE:Massey signs

In an earlier post I mentioned how MF industrials in the UK were the subject of a managment buyout and they became FERMEC.  Here is one of their signs showing the link to MF by their featuring the AFTERCARE.
