RE:Massey signs

This is one of the larger MH signs that we had in the UK.  I only know of two surviving examples.

RE:Massey signs

Missing buttons now a serious problem and having to go back a page to find an active one!!

This is a  small perspex MF sign which I had from the MF Training Centre before they demolished it some years ago.  The centre itself started out as a world war two American army hospital - a large camp of single storie buildings.  Then Harry Ferguson took it over after the war, then it subsequently became MF's world renown international training centre - the largest of its type in the world at the time and running a wide variety of courses from sales to maintenance of tractors and serving most countries in the world until a chain of centres grew up such as you had in IN.

RE:Massey signs

I notice the reply button is getting very scarce in this thread, maybe a collectors item in years to come!

Here is a J I Case Plow Works cardboard sign for their horse cultivators, I am sure I have seen one for their plows in Tim's hands several years ago, does anyone  know if any other variations are out there?

RE:Massey signs

Yes I agree Malcolm - the reply buttons are getting to be as short as hen's teeth on here!!

Tooday it's a reproduction Massey-Ferguson sign which I seem to recall I bought in Canada.  Notice the hyphen in the Massey-Ferguson which was later dropped.

RE:Massey signs

John,

I think the only way to get the "Reply" button back on here and working again is to start another thread and call it Massey Signs Part 2. I believe the reply button has gone away for good on this thread.

This sign is not one of mine but it will fit in good talking about J.I.Case Plow Works.

RE:Massey signs

WOW!! John, I guess I may have been wrong about that!! All it needed is someone to respond from this side of the pond and it came back!! I don't know why but your "Reply" button is back, at least for now.

Joe

RE:Massey signs

Thanks Joe, I am just trying your reply button!!!

Here is my J I Case Implements tin sign, I have often wondered where Cairo is in the USA? if that's where this sign spent it's life.

RE:Massey signs

Cairo, Illinois, is the southernmost tip of the state of Illinois, right where the Ohio and Mississippi rivers merge together.  It is the lowest elevation in the state of Illinois, and is surrounded by levees.  Perhaps that is where this sign resided??

There is also a Cairo, Indiana.  It is barely a blip on the map, but is in the heart of some really good farm ground in Tippecanoe county, so there could theoretically have been a dealer there...

The only "Boney" I can find is a "Boney Motor Company" in South Carolina.  But I can't find a Cairo in South Carolina, except for a Cairo Middle School near Charleston, SC...

So, while this has been a fun little diversion from work over my lunch break, can't really make a clean determination on the origins of your sign or A. T. Boney in Cairo.  But most likely either Indiana or Illinois, right here in the midwest.

Cheers,

JB

RE:Massey signs

Well done on finding a new supply of buttons Joe.  Doesn't matter where they have come from as long as they keep popping up!

John

RE:Massey signs

Well done and many thanks JB on the clarification of Cairo, every day I am at home I walk past that sign and often wondered it's original dealers location, so appreciate your lunchtime searches and possibly from YOUR own doorstep too. it has been over here for several years, one I did pick up on my Massy travels in the US several years ago.

We have said before and I will say again more does need documenting on these old Wallis / M-H dealers and their locations from years ago, otherwise it will be even harder information to find in the future than the tractor model / type discussions now going on from information in the parts books, so hope someone takes up the dealer documenting project.
