RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

John F.,

This looks like the exact same page out of my US Buyer's Guide.

At the risk of seeming argumentative, I still maintain there was no such thing as a Model named a "Hillside", i.e. you won't find a model "55 Hillside" called out in any advertising brochures.  There was a "55 Western", or "55 Western Special" (depending on which year's catalogue you look at) and a "55 Riceland".   The Western has description defining it as suitable for use in hilly conditions, or for "Hillside Operation" as stated in the photo you scanned below.  But the model was called a "55 Western", not a "55 Hillside".

So, there, the gauntlet has been thrown.  Prove me wrong by showing me a publication that refers to a model "55 Hillside".   :-)

Throwing the gauntlet eh?  We are going to need those deep lugs to get out of this hole.

RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

John,

Wayne on 8/11/2014 reports on a price list noting a hillside model so that maybe proof?

As I said I bought a parts list at Rushville and I'm sure it was for the riceland and hillside but I can't be absolutely sure.  It will be in the container shortly from Canada so will have to wait till it get home here.

In the meantime - keep thinking!!!!!

Cheers
John

RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

I have price lists from 1947, 1951, 1953 and 1955 from both the us and canada.  I see the western and ricelands listed but no hillside 55.  I stand with John and his gauntlet.

RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

Here is the scan of the 1950 pricelist. It does not have prices for a Western version so I would guess the Hillside and Western were the same.

55 hillside!   Taking a break to go get more popcorn!

RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

Get more popcorn, Drew - and perhaps a Wednesday "hump night" *****tail to wash it down.   The challenge continues!

Personally, I think Mr. Gervais, the Ass't. Branch Manager, is utilizing his own area slang when referring to the Model 55 Hillside Tractor in his typed-up local area price list.  I need to see it in an official Massey-Harris Publication, advertising literature, operators manual, parts list, or something like that before I believe Massey-Harris officially had a model they called the "55 Hillside".   :-)

Keep the research going.  Who knows what we might find!!

Cheers,

JB

RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

Good friend Lyn Jones, who has a Western 55D, has just sprung to my rescue with the attached.  So John - gauntlet returned!!!  I think perhaps this is the same as I have bought at Rushville and am awaiting to arrive.

So THERE WAS A  HILLSIDE and it was SPECIAL!!!!!!

RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

Well, there you go!   Not just a Hillside, but a Hillside Special!?!

Great.  Now I have to look for one of those...

When your literature arrives, I would like to know the publication number and date.

Hmmmm....    Now then, what should be the next challenge???

Cheers,

JB

RE:MH 55 Ricelands etc

John,

The form number was: 694 103 M1 and the date reference 1M-10-49-S on this manual that is for sale on e bay.  I presume that mine will be the same.

I'm just suprised that there is not one in your shed already...............
