RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Okay.  When I first tried to attach the file as received, I got the message it couldn't load that file type.  So, I opened it with "Paint", and then did a "Save As" with .jpg instead of .jpeg

Then, it worked as shown below.

Doesn't make sense to me, either...

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Well, to enjoy the day yesterday, started up my 1950 MH 22 and went for a ride. Just a beautiful day and decided to enjoy it for just a bit. Pulled the light switch out just to charge the battery and wouldn't you know it, blew the fuse!. This is the original switch, been there since my Grandpa Riley bought the tractor new.

Decided it was time to replace it as this is the 3rd fuse it has blown in 6 months. Happened to have a new one of hand so 30 minutes later, new light switch. I think I'll make a plaque and mount the old light switch on it, my grandpa, dad and several uncles and cousins used that switch and I just can't find it in my self to throw it away.

Hope each and everyone in the MCA starts up a tractor this week just to enjoy hearing it run!

Keith,

That's what it is all about.  You don't have to polish them up or take them to a show.  Enjoy them at home, maybe with a friend or two.  I had 3 of mine started today for two enthusiasts who had ventured up from the far south east of England.  An enjoyable 3 hrs chatting to interested people - more interesting than most that you meet at shows!

The quietness of those Continental engines is quite something................

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Had a Massey enthusiast stop over today so lost about 2 hours of tractor time but enjoyed it just as much as working on them...

I had taken the water pump off the MH 25 I got from Wayne's as it was leaking a bit the other day and got it all back together today and no leaks now so filled it with antifreeze and fired her up. I was doing a bit of cleaning in the shed and just enjoying the sound of the old 25 Idling outside the door.. I just couldn't shut it off, I must have let it Idle for at least 45 minutes just enjoying the music...

I finally got the MH Styled Challenger looking her Sunday best the other day so had to get a couple pictures so I can send them to the former owner as I told him she would clean up nicely

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Well done Joe,

I am very pleased to see you have adopted our "UK patent of preserving patina" it's just amazing and pleasing to see the results from cleaning off years of caked and dried oil, grease and dirt.
With new tyres and a nice "oil makeover" I am sure the previous owner will be pleased to see the results of your work, sounds like he did not spot the potential in the old girl like you did Joe.

Job Well Done.

Malcolm.

The refurbished front axle on my wide front green Challenger re-fitted last night.  The tractors now stands much straighter but perhaps needs the track slightly adjusting.  Also the starting handle out for a bit of straightening after a slight manoeuvering incident in the shed!

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Looks nice John! I bet it steers a lot better now, almost like power steering...

Don't get much done around here now as days are getting shorter but I did manage to get the new front tires on the Styled 25 last night so should be good for another 50 years or so now, "wishful thinking"

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Hi everybody,

My name is Dakota and I'm from southwestern Indiana and I'm new to the MCA. My tractor I have is a 1954 Massey Harris 55 gas that I bought from a MF dealership in Boonville IN in January of this year. This is also my very first antique tractor. In the 8-9 months I've had it, me and dad have done a lot of work to it. We started with cleaning off all the dirt and oil and then fixed the wiring as it was pretty well shot and then put in new gauges, cleaned out/changed coolant in radiator, cleaned up the hydraulic tank and put in fresh oil, replaced the couplers (yes they work!), changed motor oil, fixed the shock and bushings on the seat, took the fenders off and had them bent back out. After doing all that work, I got it out 2-3 weeks ago on one of the nice days and let her run and then drove it. She runs like a champ! I had went back and forth about painting it and decided to leave it in its "work clothes" for now. It really is in decent shape for sitting outside when I bought it. Got her in the garage now out of the weather. Looking forward to showing it off at tractor shows and hopefully plowing with it in the near future.

Hope to get to know all of you!

          Cheers,
                     Dakota

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Hi Dakota,

Welcome to the MCA! There are a lot of really great people among the MCA group so if you like having fun with a lot of really good people you've come to the right place...

Nice looking MH 55 you have there sounds like you are enjoying it and also getting to spend some time with your Dad, sounds like a Win Win situation to me.

Thanks for posting the progress of your project, keep up the good work.

Joe

RE:What did you do with yours today...?

Joe and Dakota,

Nice to see tractors simply brought back to their working condition rather than being hideously over painted as they never would have been originally.  This way they retain so much caharcter and history of their working life.  It is certainly my own policy not to restore but to revive - fix what is necessary to simply get them moving and alive again, then in our damp climate I give them a spray of oil once or twice a year.  If I want to take one to a show all I do is wipe down the tin work and they look like a living work horse - which is what they are - nothing fancy.

Just enjoy them!!!!

John
