RE:Tractors at local county fair

As John mentioned earlier this show was held near the market town of Ludlow in Shropshire. which is the hometown of one of the UK's famous agricultural machinery manufacturers who in their earlier years were known as F. W. McConnell and now just McConnell.

They are world renown for the manufacture of quality hedge cutting machinery, exhibited at the show was one of their very early machines mounted on a rigid frame to a wartime Standard Fordson Mosel N, the power to drive the cutter bar provided by a Petter Model A1 single cylinder engine.

To show how they have progressed from their early years here is a photo of one of their latest models the PA 8085T which has a telescopic extendable arm, this machine we bought new in January 2019 and will soon be into action for it's first season, due to environmental legislation for birds we are not allowed to start cutting hedges until the first week of September,

RE:Tractors at local county fair

Hi Malcom, yes I find that very interesting. It always fascinates me how the way you guys farm and your equipment is different from here in the states.

RE:Tractors at local county fair

See displayed on a trailer at the same show, this restoration project is not for the "faint hearted".

It is a Monarch "Neverslip" crawler which is very rare on both sides of the Atlantic, this particular example was rescued in France recently and will undergo a full restoration.

As you will see in the attached photo's the engine has already been removed for restoration, an interesting connection is these crawlers used an "Erd" four cylinder engine which is the same type as fitted into the smaller 11-22 Sawyer Massey gas tractors.

RE:Tractors at local county fair

Now that looks like a challenge !

RE:Tractors at local county fair

Our show went well!!!  We ended up with 52-53 tractors total, had 32 on the parade!!  Had a good selection!!!  Know 52-53 tractors is small time to most of you guys but this is a small town community and that’s a nice turnout for us!!!   We had very good weather, was nice and cool except during parade it got hot and humid but towards late afternoon it cooled a little!!!

RE:Tractors at local county fair

Glad to hear it! Anytime you can get that many tractors is good. Like for our small town fair, having 70 tractors show up for the week was impressive.

Very nice looking Pa Dist.!!! John
