Massey Mens Meet In The East.

Yesterday we had an "Eastern England Massey Collectors Winter Meet", both Jack Turner and I travelled down to rural Norfolk and spent a good part of the day with Alan Harris, viewing his collection and discussing all things M-H and a few other makes too.

We had a superb "Massey Lunch" at the local pub before we left for our journey back to Lincolnshire.

Thank you Alan for the wonderful hospitality extended to both Jack and I on our "Annual Winter Massey Trip",

Malcolm.

RE:Massey Mens Meet In The East.

Alan and Malcolm,
Thankyou to both of you, Malcolm for the lift down to Alan's and Alan for being Host to a Grand Day Out. We both enjoyed looking round your collection and the meal at your 'Local Pub'.  A memorable occasion in excellent company!
Malcolm dropped me off on his way home at a convenient meeting location, a 155mm Howitzer no less,.for my long suffering wife to pick me up.
On another tack,...can anyone advise me as to the tappet clearances on my 1937 M-H GP?. I only have the instruction book for the side valve Hercules but mine is the OHV model, Thanks.
                                                Jack.

RE:Massey Mens Meet In The East.

Jack,

I don't have an instruction book for the OHV GP, only a parts manual which doesn't give the setting.

I had the head off mine a year or so ago and reset the valves at 12 thou and it runs fine.  I don't think it is very critical to a few thou.  But maybe someone out there has a service manual????

John

RE:Massey Mens Meet In The East.

Thanks John, I reckon you are about right with 12thou,  I'll wait a couple of days to see if anyone has an extract from the manual and set it to 'that'll do'  standard if no joy. I started it up about a month ago and a water mist of water came out of the exhaust pipe and it ran on 3 for a bit then cleared, so 'off with it's head'!  To my relief, no cracks so put a new copper/asbestos substitute gasket on with welseal and am now reassembling the beast.
                   Jack.

RE:Massey Mens Meet In The East.

Jack,

You should have no problems with it at 12 thou. As far as I know there has never been a manual produced for the Overhead Valve GPs just the Parts manual. If there is anyone else out there that knows any different I would like to know but so far I've never seen one yet.

I am glad to see you guys are still playing with your toys!! I wish I had some of that green grass in the back round of your pictures, it makes it much easier to get around than the snow we have...

Joe

RE:Massey Mens Meet In The East.

Thanks Joe, 12 thou. it shall be!. Global warming means that we hardly ever get snow before Christmas nowadays and even after Christmas a small dusting of the stuff means virtual paralysis of the country owing to those in charge of us being complete 'fairies' who lack any sort of spine. On the other hand we get plenty rain which means flooding and mud so count your blessings.

                                                                   Jack.

RE:Massey Mens Meet In The East.

Looks like you fellows were having a good get together!!! I see in the photos Malcolm still has his knee boots on!!   12 thousand to me sounds a little tight! I’d would a use few more thousands and not every chance having to tight and burn the valves ?? Dennis

RE:Massey Mens Meet In The East.

That looks like a "power" meeting!  Great pics of you all.  I am sure there was lots of MAssey talk during the day.  Isn't it great just to plan a short trip like that to just stop, look and visit with your friends.

Ony and I miss seeing all of you UK gentlemen!!

Merry Christmas!!
