Massey Harris Chain lift plow

Well I got my #2 parts tractor back home along with the MH plow. I think this is the original plow for the #2 massey and would really like to find a parts list or any literature telling the model number of this plow.

I guess I also need to find one moldboard for it also. I will check the numbers this weekend.

This plow is suprisingly in good shape and the lift still works good. shares look good also. Landsides are poor but they can be made not too bad.

The odd thing about it is the adjusting handles are double jointed.

RE:Massey Harris Chain lift plow

The early Massey Harris Chain lift Plough was very popular here in the UK in both two and three furrow (bottom) configuration, attached are photographs of one which I bought from the Frank Smith collection many years ago, it now resides in Bob Parkes collection and has been very nicely restored, there are several others around the UK in collections and I have some very nice original literature which I will photograph and put on here, stamped on the literature is the name of the dealer in the town of Grantham, Lincolnshire.

RE:Massey Harris Chain lift plow

I hope David Parfitt doesn't mind me posting his photographs which he sent me a long time ago of his dad Geoff ploughing with his two furrow chain lift plough after restoration was completed behind another very nice original patina M-H styled 25 which he has owned for many years.

Here is a copy of the British M-H Chain Lift Plough brochure, together with a two page testimonial sheet.

RE:Massey Harris Chain lift plow

Thanks for the pictures Malcolm, they look like the same plow. Mine has a spoke tailwheel, and the double joint levers.

I hope to be able to find a moldboard soon so I can get it working again. Might be tough to do but a couple of the wheels are thin also from sitting in the NS dirt. Would be nice to buy a 2 bottom also as that would be a better fit for our soil than a 3 bottom behind a #2 or Wallis.

RE:Massey Harris Chain lift plow

Just seen your reply Tom whilst posting the previous brochure, here are two US brochures I have and you will be interested to see the plow behind the No 2 just like your old photograph. Also note the brochures show both solid and spoked rear tail wheels together with the double jointed levers on one brochure.

RE:Massey Harris Chain lift plow

I have just found this four year old thread down the bottom of the pile and decided to bring it to the top in case our new member Jack Turner hasn't seen it, I know he has a lot of affection for his chain lift plough and maybe he can fill us in on a bit of its history here in Lincolnshre and what he did to bring it back to working order.

Here is a photo or two of his plough in action, with his grandson at the controls.

RE:Massey Harris Chain lift plow

Its a long while since this Chain Lift plough thread has seen any additions, so thought it was time to post a photo of another two furrow chain lift we saw on our trip to Holland last summer, its amazing how these keep appearing from time to time and how many are still around when you keep looking.

Has anyone else found any in the past 11 months since the last posting here.

RE:Massey Harris Chain lift plow

Whilst trawling through my old photographs last night I came across another two furrow chain lift plough, this was photographed at The Royal Show many years ago when John Burge and the founders of FOFH put on an excellent Anniversary Display, I suppose by today's standard of the Club it could be described as "The Good Old Days"

Have you any more photo's from this event John? can you remember what year it was?

A few flowers and a bit of imagination can brighten up a display, even the passing by ladies take a glance at the flowers.
