Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Did Massey-Harris sell Ensilage Cutters made by the Blizzard Manufacturing Company or even take them over?

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Yes the Blizzard and the Massey Harris cutters were one in the same.  I don't know much of the history but I know where both are.  I will try to get pics of the green Blizzard that was recently restored by the Purdue Ag Alumni Assn.  The red Massey Harris is owned by our own Malcolm.

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

The reason I was asking is that I think Blizzard made some wrenches and I was wondering if they were supplied with the ensilage cutter? If they were should they be included in the list of M-H wrenches? I have seen Malcolms. Thanks for the pics.

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Thanks for posting the photo's of my work in progress Garyy, I have to say progress is very slow this winter, there are not many of these Blizzards around, only seen three others on my travels, one in Ontario, Minnesotta and I wonder where the one sold in Yuma went to?

Alan in the M-H manual for the Blizzard it lists four wrenches

A 23
M 39
Z 435
779 W which is a box tee wrench.

I will check my Blizzard chopper parts book and see if they listed any wrenches for their manufactured units.
How is the Blizzard restoration project going near you Gary??

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Thanks Malcolm for the info and pics. I can add those wrench numbers to my list. I wonder where to enter them under Massey-Harris or as a seperate company like Wiard or Verity

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Hello Alan,

I would title it Massey-Harris and Associated Companies and then sub tiltle and list separately Companies like  J I Case Plow Works, Verity, Johnston Harvester, Wiard, Blizzard, Sunshine etc

Just my thoughts and look forward to seeing your progress, which I am sure will be an on going process and a great reference for wrench (spanner) collecting in the future.

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

The Blizzard manual lists three wrenches

922 W
CW
W 9

They also list three socket wrenches with a separate handle.

W 1
W 3
W 4
CIDPOT  Socket Wrnch Handle.

So these Blizzard supplied wrenches don't seem to have any connection to the M-H supplied ones.

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Hello Malcolm
Thanks for the information.Do I take it these last part numbers were supplied with a Blizzard Chopper but not a M-H Blizzard?
I've got to a stage where I have got to arrange my list into some sort of order and then start adding pictures. There will be a lot of wrenches out still that I have no information about so I have to go on searching.
Alan

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Yes the last post and copies of the manual are from The Blizzard Manufacturing Co of Canton Ohio and no direct connection to the M-H Blizzard, so I would not list these Alan.
With Massey buying out and having manufacturing agreements with so many companies it all get's very confusing, especailly many years later like we are looking at here and not many old hands left who know and remember the exact truth of the connections in the day.

RE:Blizzard Ensilage Cutter

Thanks Malcolm for the latest info.
I've got approx 500 part numbers at the moment. Not all different as some part numbers are the same for M-H, Wallis etc as you know.
