Massey Harris Stoves.

Part of my Massey trip across the pond this year was to leave The National Show in Baraboo early Sunday morning and drive into Canada to collect a Massey Harris Stove which I bought in a house clearance auction in May.

I left Baraboo at 3.00am and drove to Brandon, Manitoba, with only gas and food stops along the way, arriving 935 miles later around 6.00pm and stayed with friends, the next morning we drove to Indian Head, Saskatchewan to collect the stove pictured below which had been bought new from the local M-H dealer and installed in the home and used by two generations of the family.
Here it started it's long journey to A*****er Minnesota, where it joined Steve Miller's M-H Superior cooking range for a few days before we packed it well for shipping to England, after eight days on the ship it is here in Lincolnshire and already cleaned up and ready to be put in position in my collection, some suggest it should be used for "Massey Heat" especially with the high rising oil costs here.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

The Stoves were widely advertised in the Candian Farmer's Handy Catalogs of the late 1930's, attached are copies of some of the advertising.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

So is it a stove or a heater?  Your brochure above makes reference to a Massey Harris heater. It doesn't look like you can cook too much on there.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Drew,

It depends on your individual perception of the word "stove", the one I bought was sold as a "Massey-Harris wood burning Stove", which of course does give off heat so could be a "heater".
Which ever way you look at it the two generations of owners had certainly used the open grille top to keep pans warm, because I spent a whole weekend cleaning the hard dry burnt on spillages from the brown enamel casing.

The only other brown stove / heater I have seen is in Keith Oltroggee's collection, does anyone know of any more?

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Since you hang out with Steve all of the time, where is that guy?  He needs to be on this website and posting some pictures of his excellent collection.

Just sayin'

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Helle Reuhlz, Thanks for your posts, good to see you are progressing with your 22 project. You will have to talk withe Steve and get him into this computer age. We seem to have problems here in Uk getting into the site, that is why I have not posted for over a month, both John and I get through the home page, into a discussion thread and then the system locks up and churns away for ages going nowhere, don't have this problem with any other sites, so hope the MCA tech men can sort it for us, just been an hour getting to this point on my I Phone, but looks more promising at getting a message posted.
HELP us Joe or Brendon.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

I have noticed that this site has been much longer to load pages than any other websites recently.  I would agree with you that the webserver could use some more juice or tweaked settings.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Interesting what you are saying about getting onto the site. It takes me a long time to get onto it with my PC but my Android Phone usually goes straight on

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

Just an up date for you all on the Massey stove, whilst you have all been eating your turkey and trimmings and playing in the snow I have found a suitable place in the entrance to my Massey Memorabilia building to install the stove and benefit from the heat.

Christmas Day I was tiling the floor, grouting the following day and yesterday the stove was carried into it's place in style on a Massey Harris sack truck.

Now I am fabricating the connector to fit the oval shape on the stove outlet, to a large round stove pipe and then I can get the chimney through the roof, hoping it is not too long before there is some real Massey heat.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey Harris Stoves.

That is a prefect fit.  You did a great job getting things ready.   That room is just the right size for a stove that size.  Just don't burn down the building with.  We would all be crying knowing what is in there!!  Good luck finishing it up!!
