Dealers Decal

Does any one have an original dealers decal on the side of your tractor you can take a pic of and post?  Not comfortable with the Hunter Maple fonts they used on their reproductions. I have an original of the round type (Attached) and it is also different than what they offer. I really want the other style if possible. Any help is appreciated.

thanks

RE:Dealers Decal

Hi Gary,

Glad to see someone is out there and still alive!! Been pretty dead on here lately...Where is everyone?? Getting ready for Massey Days???

Here is a scan of a NOS decal front and back with directions. The front view has some bleeding from the back of the other so it is not perfect but probably better than a picture you will find on a tractor.

RE:Dealers Decal

Thats what I am looking for!!  Thanks Joe.

Next question?  Why is there two different decals.  Are there differences in age or dates used?  Do they represent differnt regions or countries?  Why are their two significantly different decals!!?!?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gary

RE:Dealers Decal

I have two of the <MH> decals on pith helmets.  The white one is older and carries the <MH>from my grandfather who bought a 101 Sr. in 1948(?).  The gray one is a Ferguson, probably the early to mid 50's when the same dealer took on Ferguson, prior to the merger with M-H.

I'm wondering if some of you with extensive advertising collections might be able to research when the <MH> logo with the "Tractors", "Combines" and "Implements" came into use.  Possibly mid 50's?

Glad to see some activity here again.  Let's keep it going!

RE:Dealers Decal

Wild Harvest,  Vol. 18, No. 5 &6 from 2000 has an extensive reproduction of 1949 Dealer Merchandising Aids.  Page 33 shows th <MH> style dealer decals, sold in quatities of 250 only for $12.50, post-paid.

The same page also shows window and machine decals with the "Tractors", "Combines" and "Implements" bars added, but not on the small dealer decals.  I'm guessing that those 250 probably lasted many of the smaller dealers for several years!

This particular issue of Wild Harvest contains a wealth of information about many of the highly prized collectibles that we see being sold today.  Just imagine one of the 28" by 8 foot long porcelain enamel signs, (black and red with yellow lettering) for only $11.50. F.O.B. Racine.

Thanks, Keith Oltrogge, for publishing this valuable reference guide, and for drawing our attention to some of the people who have made our hobby what it is!

Sincerely,

RE:Dealers Decal

Hi Jerry,

thanks for the research!  I just have not had time to dig in that far.  Interesting you mentioned the $11.50 for the procelain sign.  I have the original invoice for mine.  Dated 12/26/46 $11.50.  It came with other materials i purchased from a guy who bought stuff at the LL Babbit dealership in NY.  Notice my first post!!  Same dealer!!  Amazing how you fall into these things.  I will try to post a pic of it tomorrow.

thanks again for digging.  I will have to get out my issues of WH to re read the story!!
