44k

Hi all,  is have just picked up a 44k.  It has the full fenders, chrome bezels around the lights and black pained engine, serial number 44ks1320.  The engine is cast as a H 280 block. My original 44k has the small fenders, H 260 block and serial number 44ks 2604.

My main questions revolves around the possiblillty of an anniversary models with the chrome lights bezels and the black engine. My fathers 1947 55k also has the black engine. Am I on the right track with the anniversary models, and the engine colours? Did the casting number give the engine capacity.? If so, why the step up from 260 to 280 without going to the 44k special with the 277c.i engine?  Regards Buck.

RE:44k

Hi Buck,

I have always heard that the 1947 models had black engines.  I don't know of the existence of an H280.  I suspect it is just difficult to read, maybe the molds were worn or something, but would be willing to bet it is really an H260 in your early 44K.

I believe the chrome bezels around the headlights is also correct for the 1947 models.

Cheers,

JB
