MH Bicycle seat

I bought a Massey-Harris bicycle at George Smyth's sale  2-3 years ago - time flies.  It is in very good condition except for the seat which was well past its sell by date.

I have recently had it restored by a local chap who is a very proficient carpenter and has recently moved into leatherwork.  He has clearly mastered the art of leather and has made a great job of it.  He went to the trouble of first making a solid wood mould replica of the original seat shape over which he stretched the leather before fiting it to the actual stripped down seat.  A marvellous job for which I am vey grateful.

Hope you all approve of this splendid workmanship!

RE:MH Bicycle seat

I would love to have a MH bike but they are pretty rare here in the states. I have seen a few but not many. Nice job.

RE:MH Bicycle seat

Dan,

Thanks for your kind comment re the seat.  I was really lucky to get it done to such a high standard - and without paying an arm and a leg!

You are probably better off looking up to Canada to find an MH bike.  I would now like to find a ladies bike.  The first MH bike I ever saw was many years ago in the then Ontario Agricultural Museum and that was a Ladies bike.  It was, and still is, hung high up on a wall with a lovely large background autumn country pic behind it to set it off.

Good hunting!

John
