MCA 2017 Annual Spring Meeting

The MCA 2017 Annual Spring Meeting is just over two weeks away.  If you're not going to make to Ames for this event and want to cast your ballot for directors by mail you only have a week to make the March 1st deadline.  If we don't recieve your ballot by mail you will be able to cast your vote at the meeting.  Don't forget, spouses are able to vote as well if they are listed on your membership renewal form. We hope to see you in Ames on March 10th and 11th!

RE:MCA 2017 Annual Spring Meeting

Just a reminder that on Friday Spring Meeting attendees will have the opportunity to travel to Clarion, IA (about an hour north of Ames) to view Larry Maasdam's extensive collection.  Not only does he have some beautifully restored rare Masseys, but there are unique models of every brand and configuration imaginable.  The Heartland Museum has all types of exhibits for men and women and remember Larry has invited MCA members to see the unbelievable collection of toys in his basement at 2:00 Friday afternoon.  Maps to guide you to and around Clarion will be available when you register in Ames.  They will also list your options for lunch on Friday in Clarion.  Send your registration in today so you don’t miss out!

RE:MCA 2017 Annual Spring Meeting

This year’s Spring Meeting is in the same facility as it was the last time it came to Iowa.

The Quality Inn and Suites / Starlight Village Conference Center is on 13th Street just west of Interstate 35.  You’ll want to get off the Interstate at exit 113, the first one north of the Highway 30 interchange.

The management and staff were wonderful hosts before and we expect the same great service this time.  If you haven’t made your room reservations yet call 515-232-9260 and be sure to mention the special Massey Rate for your discounted room.

RE:MCA 2017 Annual Spring Meeting

Attention Iowa MCA Chapter Members!  Our Annual Iowa Chapter Spring Meeting will be held in conjunction with this meeting in Ames.  This will replace the meeting we normally have in April in Grinnell or Ames.  It is scheduled for 11:00 on Saturday March 11th at Starlight Village Convention Center.  That will be after our General Membership Meeting and before lunch.  We will be electing Iowa board members and officers and reviewing other plans for this coming year.  If you have any questions please contact Kurt Kelsey
.
You can come just for the meeting, the whole day or the entire weekend.  It promises to be a good time!

RE:MCA 2017 Annual Spring Meeting

Mr. Dale Lawrence has informed me that there will be a very rare one of a kind piece of MCA history on the auction at this year's Spring Meeting.  He has in a closet in his home the quilt Sandy Miller made commemorating the first Great Planting when the MCA set a Guinness Book world record for plowing, tilling and planting over 100 acres of wheat with one make of antique machinery in one day.  This took place just days after the September 11th attack in 2001.  I'm told there wasn't a plane in the sky as the Massey equipment undertook this endeavor.   A time in American history none of us will forget.

Dale says this unique item needs to be in someone's museum so it can be enjoyed by others.  You can bid to make it yours at the banquet and if you can't be there feel free to have someone bid for you.  If you need assistance please don't hesitate to contact me personally.

Good Luck!

Hope someone is soon going to "spill the beans" of the weekend's activities in IA, surely someone managed to take a few photo's?

Malcolm.

RE:MCA 2017 Annual Spring Meeting

Hi Malcolm,

I didn't take any pics at the meeting but I did take a few of the Maasdam Collection.  Some of these were in the Heartland Museum and the toys were in his home.

If anyone is ever in the north central part of Iowa it is well worth your time to see the Museum and if possible see Larrys many barns and lots that are filled with his collection of tractor and construction equipment.

Gary,

You didn't include any photos of my favorite tractor of Larry's in the Heartland Museum!  Here are a couple of photos of it I took when I stopped by there on the way home from Madison, SD last August.
