MH I-244 and I-162 Registries

Hope everyone is ready for Christmas. I am not but...I have plenty of time!!

One of my winter challenges I would like to take on is developing a registry of the Massey Harris military tractors.  They would include the I-244 (about 700 were built for the Air Force, Navy and Army Corp of Engineers).  I would also like the finish the I-162 (25 were built for the Army).  And of course' the I-330 (6 were built for the Navy - I think this one might be close to completion)!!

If you have or know someone who has any of these tractors, I would like to talk to them, determine their serial numbers, location, condition, and get some pics the tractor.

We are not worried about condition of the tractor, but would like to know the tractor even exists!!

The information could be very useful as we move down the road and forget where we saw the tractor or heard about it. Example - I looked at a I-162 in New Jersey several years ago and passed on it  The same tractor is now owned by the Harrell family in NC and was on display at Massey Expo 2017!!

We currently know of 13 of the 25 I-162's  I do need some help on a couple.  If anyone has the serial number for the Butch Simmons tractor I would appreciate knowing about it.

Also at the National Show in Pinckneyville there was a guy who had just finished painting an I-162 Army tractor red and yellow. I never met him but did see the tractor. I even have it listed on the show inventory!  But I don't have any pics of it.

By any chance if would you happen to know who might own that tractor or where it is located I would like the owners name, location, and serial number of the tractor plus a pic or two if possible.  I will be happy to call the person; I just need to know who he was!!  Any help is appreciated!!

The I-244 will be a little more crazy!!  While we were in North Carolina two I-244s were at the show and another three or four people came up talking about their tractors - most all of the were Army COE!!!

Anyway, any help would be appreciated in developing this list!!

Thanks

Gary

RE:MH I-244 and I-162 Registries

Hi Gary,
I seen Butch's at his place about 20 years ago.
Do you have any contact info on him?

Chuck Cooney had one that was probably on his sale.
Wonder if anybody knows where that one went?

Only 2 I know of.

Merry Christmas everyone,
Paul

Gary, I may be able to get a photo and name of owner of the 162 at Pinckneyville, but it'll be August of 2018. You could ask Tom Jansen as he's a board member with the American Threshermens Association.
As far as Christmas shopping, remember Wal-Mart is not open Christmas day.

RE:MH I-244 and I-162 Registries

Joe you are just plain flat wonderful!!  I went back and he was even a member for the one yeat so I have his phone number too!!

Pics are great thnks for taking the time to look them up and then posting them!!

I already had him in the count so we are still at 13. But that is amazing.

I thought I remembered one at one of the shows in Canada but it has been a long time ago. That would be a new one for the count!!

Still would like to get Butch's numbers.  Idoubt if it has ever sold. I knew it was for sale for a while but he would never let it go.

I have found the #1001 tractor. and at this point I have the newest one at 1020.

Thanks again for digging out the pics and info!!

Merry Christmas!!

Gary

RE:MH I-244 and I-162 Registries

I have I244 2001 and 2120 - both very rough, 2120 without engine or hood but original rears hold air, one or 2001 rears hods air - cabs removed and no magnets.Had intended to purchase 2002 with cab and restore 2001, but I waited too long and 2002 went somewhere else. Anyway - I am wondering if anyone might be interested in the pair.
