Tandem Massey 55s

So I have always been intrigued by these tandem tractors that farmers built when factory built 4WDs  (like Wagner) were still pretty well new. I was curious to know if any of you other guys remember seeing these actually working or knew anyone who built one. A fellow member of the local machinery club built one out of 2 AC WD45s, he calls it the WD90.

John B, we should build one!

Cheers,

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

Dakota and JB,

To save yourselves a lot of work building one why not jump on a plane and attend the Bob Parke auction near Norwich in Norfolk England on September 7th and buy the M-H you have shown above.

A great opportunity for our North American Massey Collectors to take a few rare pieces of M-H history back home across the pond.

Get your airline tickets booked and we will see you there.

Malcolm.

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

Hi Malcolm,

Hmm, I have always wanted to see England. I bet that tractor will go for a good chunk of change.

I know one 55 is a beast, but two put together, they would be virtually unstoppable.

Cheers,

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

As I don't normally post green and yellow on this excellent website, this photo's is just for you Dakota.

I know you like these conversions and recently sold here in England at the Spring Vintage Cheffins auction was this tandem J-D model D which I am sure originated from your side of the Atlantic.

Hope you enjoy the change of colour Dakota.

Malcolm.

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

Hi Malcolm,

You know me well, haha. John Deere is right up there with Massey Harris/Ferguson and Steiger as my 3 favorite tractor makes. Sharp lookin D's. Someone here in the states mated two D's together and I ran across someone on the net who mated two JD R's together (Deeres first diesel tractor too). Ive always wanted to do one, just dont know what two tractors I would mate together.

Thanks again.

Cheers,

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

Dakota,

I well remember visiting Don Duffner in North Dakota back in 1996, I was very impressed with all his green and yellow conversions, think I recall three 830's all linked together and working with a ;large set of discs in the field, I have some photo's somewhere.

Again this is to "wet your appetite" for two Ertl M-H 55's joined together, if you cannot make the long haul flight across to Bob Parke's auction in September then your next opportunity is to buy the 55 tandem model in the online auction, I will attach a link of it, lot number 804.
You can sit at home, pressing the bid key and once you have it bought it is much easier to put in a box and mail across the pond than fitting the real thing into a shipping container.

Food for your thought.

Malcolm.

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

Malcolm, Three 830s hooked together must be impressive. Just like the 55, an 830 is a beast on its own, but you put three together, thats a force to be reckoned with. If you happen to find those photos, I would love to see them. Thank you, I will have to look that up.

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

As long as we are on the subject...

Google Don Duffner 830 and you will find lots of photos and videos.  I thought there was another one that used three 830 engines but only two sets of drive axles.  It had the same style cab as this one.  I haven't been able to find that one, yet.

RE:Tandem Massey 55s

I have seen this one before, it is quite an impressive machine. I think it has been at Rantoul before. I will say Im not a huge fan of the SoundGuard cab that he has on it, but still an impressive piece of work nonetheless. He must be a skilled operator to run all 3 of those.
